That being said, I'm still confused. Why would the official report a flagrant 1 to the table, then go to the monitor? Especially when the rule book specifically discourages officials from using replay when there's a reasonable confidence that an illegal elbow did occur. I thought you go to the monitor to determine IF a flagrant 1 occurred that you didn't catch, or to determine if you need to upgrade a flagrant 1 to a flagrant 2. Is there anything on that play that makes it seem like the foul could be upgraded?

On top of that, why handcuff your officials by not allowing them to reverse a call when it's determined by replay that no contact actually occurred?

It's just a really weird situation.

Thanks for quoting that, BadNewsRef.

I have a buddy who still has the game recorded. The L (Joe Lindsay) signaled a common foul on the play (fist raised straight in the air).

My question is, the case book talks about not being able to downgrade the play, but does it mention anything about negating the foul call altogether when the officials determine no contact at all occurred?

And, is there a "faking being fouled" rule in NCAA? Couldn't find that either.

Last season (or this preseason) John Adams posted a video in which the officials negated the foul call. He stated the situation was handled improperly.
