If the coach OR player asks to start at a specific spot then that's where I'll go.

All other times I go tableside in this situation to put the crew in the 'Cadillac' position.

There's a 3-person Cadillac? I suppose it's putting the C opposite. Never heard it referred to it this way.

Ah, the good old days when we used to cross the court during a live ball to go Cadillac. The 2-person Cadillac I'm very familiar with, as we had to switch sides during live ball the first 5 or so years I officiated.

A coach can request anything they want to, but that does not mean you have to accommodate. I am going to put the ball in play based on where we were before the timeout and where my partners are located. Unless a coach makes that request very clear I am not going to take extra time to move officials all over the court because they like the right side instead of the left side.

Peace

That's it. IMO, C is better for last shot. As long as FED insists on it being "opposite", then I'll move IF WE CAN to make them the same.

I pre-game to STAY in our positions (T, L, C) after a time-out. No need to rotate just because of a TO.

To stay consistent with that philosophy...I would probably just tell the coach we stay in the position we were in before the TO.

...I wonder if a Coach would be smart enough to request a rotation change...not because he has a "play" set up for the right side...but, because it would rotate a "certain" official from C to L. That "certain" official may be calling a lot of fouls that night, in his opinion, and he wants "that guy" on the endline.

Having said that...officials shouldn't rotate...but, I have seen it happen.

True, around here everyone is supposed to have the same position after the t/o that they had prior to. But I've seen it happen as well.

We don't worry about that too much, but since we had this discussion in the past, I try to stay in the same position (T, C, L) as before the timeout. Partner the other night wanted to switch a few times and I didn't really care, so I did.

My favorite people are the ones who try to figure out how to get into the C as quickly as possible.

That's easy. Take the U2 position and call a center circle violation on a player who is tableside! :D

And since neither our association nor the NFHS Mechanics Manual allows us to bounce the ball across the lane, I would rotate to that side.

I agree with this response.
