While not the Chicago area, there are quite a few taking place in around here. I am right there with you as far as being a great time of year. I always look forward to seeing teams and officials I only see at this time of year. I always enjoy the chance to sit with other officials and watch the game before or after mine.

During the week after Christmas, I have 5 games in 3 days....all 2-man boys varsity. On the days with two, I've got a got a relatively early game (10:30am/1:30pm) game and then a 7:15 pm game. Plenty of time to rest between.....it should be fine but I will certainly be taking Advil as a preventative measure.

That is tourney time.....and I love it. Usually good games and lots of them.

Schedule worked out about as good as I could hope. I was able to schedule an early afternoon game and evening game on four of the five days. It never usually works out this well.

Saw this article about one of the Chicago area Holiday Tournaments. Must be quite the event.

One of the best tournaments in the country. BTW, I was on the game with the leak last year. Game was delayed over an hour and caused some challenges to deal with water on the court. And we had an upset. There is usually not a bad game in that tournament. All teams are competitive and you have interesting games.

Peace

It is the mother of all tournaments, always star studded.

Proviso West All-Time All-Tournament Team (2000)

And this is an old list!

A few years back Jon Scheyer of Duke fame scored 21 points in something like 90 seconds.

It's a toss up for doing a state final or a Proviso tourney game for me

I love the holiday tourneys!

I'm working three tournaments this year between Christmas and New Year. I've always worked a holiday tournament every year but this will be the first time that I've been lucky enough to be asked to work in three of them. Like JRut I too look forward to these games and wait anxiously for the call from the assignor to find out when I'm working.

Watching the local news last night and the second story is a huge fight at a local game that starts in the stands and spills onto the court - players, coaches, etc. all get involved.

My son says to me, "Hey dad, don't you have that team next week?"

"Why yes, yes I do." First game of my tournament......

Paper says they expect suspensions. Hopefully, my game will be a bit more quiet!

I just picked up a third game next week. It's 2-person, but that's OK.

So that just leaves Monday and Tuesday open. There's still time. It's sad when I would probably work as a third for free, but I do love this time of the year and any opportunity to get on the court. :D

I just picked up a fourth game for the week, tonight. An official got sick and called me to replace him. Girls game. 2-person on a college-sized court. I can use the exercise.

I figured if I just waited long enough I'd work all week. :D

Truly a great time of year for basketball enthusiast.

I have the good fortune to have a light telework week at the day job so I left my schedule open all day.

BV double headers starting at 4pm today and 1pm tomorrow, then a tourny championship game on Thurs night.

Very rare to do a boys double around here but they had no choice with some schools starting games as early as 9am.

Interestly, I'm the only one working both of my dhs. A different partners set of partners for the second game both days.

I'd love to work 2 games in a day more often. I'm in a lot better shape than I was a few years ago, though.

I have 6 dates with 2 games scheduled this season. Mostly 1PM juco games with 7:30PM HS games. The time between games means I have to stretch just as much as I do when I work a single game, if not more.

I can just hear your pre-game: "Okay fellas, all five of you remaining on the team after the free-for-all the other night, I expect you to all act like "Clerks" out there . . ."
With a fierce mascot like that, you'd expect a fight to break out now and then. What is this, a prep school for stenographers? :D

Nope, no pre-game for me.

Assignor just called. Game I talked about in post #38 caused suspensions and a forfeit of my game tonight. Thankfully, I have another game on Thurs......I hope!

I'm guessing there will be no game check for you, either. There should be.
