Lead Positioning...and others

What are some key concepts to get across to younger officials moving up to 3-man concerning Lead positioning? Even throw in some, if you have them, for the Center and Trail positions.

Ex: Don't pinch yourself down and out of a good angle...ect.

- Find a reason to rotate.
- Use confident, purposeful movements.
- Know your 3 immediates.
- Mirror the ball on the perimeter.
- Trust the C & T on above the rim plays.
- Patient whistle required.

3 immediates for not rotating:
Pass to the weakside for an immediate shot
Pass to the weakside for an immediate dribble drive
Swing pass to the weakside immediately reversed

I have no further definition of mirroring the ball.

When the ball is near the sideline, L should be in the wide position. When the ball is near the middle, L should be in close-down position.

  • On fast break situations, the Lead must be ready to help on "3" point shots
  • When the ball is above the free throw line extended, the Lead should have responsibility for "3" second violations.
  • On a press, the Lead official should have a "free safety mentality"
  • In the Lead position, get into a "back" stance in order to be patient
  • Sprint from Trail to Lead, don't have a "home run" trot
  • Pick up game and shot clocks from Trail to Lead
  • The Lead has "strong side rebounding"
  • When working the Lead, pick up secondary defenders on drives to the basket
  • Lead don't rule across the lane when a primary match-up is involved with the Center
  • When rotating as a Lead, don't rotate blindly
  • In the Lead position, if you cannot see between the offense and defensive player you are out of position

Are we talking 2-person officiating here?

Like the list BTW

One more:

Center can dictate movement of lead on certain pressure situations
