Since we went off on a movie quote tangent on Larks' "UC vs. Zags..." thread, here's on for ya.

"We trust that you're a fine, upstanding, God-fearing man with Christian morals and principals, who will set an example and a standard of leadership for our boysÂ… tell me, do you believe in zone defense or man to man?"

Best line in Hoosiers:

"Strap, you're going in for ____...DON"T shoot the ball unless you're under the basket all by yourself, understand?"

I always chuckle at that one.

I love Hoosiers, also. One overlooked movie (SI.com gave it an honorable mention) is the boxing flick, "They Harder They Fall", with Humphrey Bogart as a washed up sportswriter who takes a PR job promoting a stiff from South America (based on Primo Carnera) and Rod Steiger playing the promoter.

It's a real graphic inside view of the dirty side of the fight game. Also features real fighters Max Baer and Jersey Joe Wolcott (as a trainer).

Here are some pictures from my favorite sports movie (and part of a great, great 2 book series). And here's a quote from the movie:

"From now on, I rag nobody."

Name it? The winner gets a little known but interesting bit of trivia.

DeNiro was great in "Bang The Drum Slowly".

Here's one for you. Who was Max Baer's son and what famous role did he play?

OK, more trivia: In Bang the Drum Slowly Bruce Pearson had the same number as a real life catcher who also died young.
Name & number please?

Actually, it was double-naught spy Jethro Bodine.

One of my favorite sports movie quotes is the dialogue from "The Natural", at the end of the movie, between Roy Hobbs (Redford) and the coach (Wilfred Brimley). I don't remember it verbatim, but it goes something like...

Coach: My mom wanted me to be a farmer.
Hobbs: My dad wanted me to be a ballplayer.

Coach looks at Hobbs briefly.

Coach: Well, you're the best player I ever had. And, you're the best damn hitter I've ever seen. Go suit up.

Awesome. I never get tired of that piece of dialogue. I get goose bumps just typing it.

Yes, it's a chick flick, but I've always loved this exchange.

When confronted about leaving the team:

Geena Davis: It just got too hard.
Tom Hanks: It's supposed to be hard. If it was easy, everybody'd do it. The hard is what makes it great.
