Under high school rules, is a technical foul also considered a personal foul? Can a player foul out of a game on a technical foul? Thanks.

A technical foul is not a personal foul. They are counted as one of the 5 fouls needed for disqualification. Two technical fouls will also disqualify a player,as will 5 personal fouls,or 4 personal fouls and 1 technical foul. Both personal and technical fouls count towards the bonus.

Welcome to the forum,Rob.

Although T's are not personal fouls, they can, on occasion, get quite "personal", so be careful!

And welcome....

I am not disputing the delineation between personal and technical fouls. But to answer the question a little clearer, if a player picks up his/her 4th personal foul and then is assessed a T, the T is marked in the book under "personal fouls" as number 5, and the player is disqualified.
There tends to be some confusion among bookkeepers in our area weather or not to mark the T as a "personal foul". As JR mentioned, it also is added to the foul total in reference to the bonus.

This is the case if you are using old scorebooks. Newer ones (at least in my experience) have a place for 2 technicals in the same section as the place for the 5 personals, making it more apparent that any combination of 5 is a Dairy Queen (DQ).

Do indirect Techs, for things like wrong number in the book, also count towards bonus?

NCAA: no.

Fed: All charged technical fouls are counted toward the bonus. Indirect technical fouls are only recorded if a direct technical foul is charged to bench personell (other than the head coach).

Hope that helps a little.

Re: volleyballrocks statement...book technicals are NOT indirect T's, they are Team T's, not charged to any individual.
