Question

Here's one a partner asked me about the other night. NFHS.

He had a kid go up for a dunk and miss the dunk. The ball bounced off the back of the rim. In my buddy's judgement, the kid hung on the rim to long. He T'd him up. Just about that time the ball came down and went through the basket.

I didn't see the play...but am describing the play the way he did to me. I told him I would have had to see the play but, that was a pretty tough call getting the kid for hanging on the rim. I asked him if he was sure he wasn't avoiding an injury because of the miss...he said no way in his judgement. I asked him if he "monkey swung"...he said no just hung there to long.

What do ya got?
He said he gave the kid a T and counted the bucket.
I told him you wouldn't count the basket and he said "Yeah, I looked it up the next day and found out I was wrong".
Another question: what did he look up? The part about the ball being dead after the T? Or...could it be the player had his hands in the cylinder (on the rim) when the ball passed through the basket?

It's a T for hanging on the rim.

The basket is no good, because it's BI to touch "the ball or basket, (including the net), when the ball is on or within either basket." There is an exception that allows a player to dunk the ball and no commit BI. But this isn't a dunk.
