Only in Soccer.

I am glad I don't officiate soccer anymore.

Captain's red card for bling ding-a-ling | Herald Sun

I had a somewhat similar situation a few summers ago in a USSSA Girls' 16U Fastpitch Tournament. Just before she steps into the batter's box, the batter lifted up her jersey to wipe the sweat off her face and and the sunlight caused a bright flash on the middle of her stomach. The flash was very visible to the catcher and me. I aske the batter if she was wearing a belly button piercing and she said yes. I told her to remove it and she did. If she have never raised her jersey to wipe her face she would have never been busted.

Good lord.

Such piercings need to be filed under "don't ask, don't tell."

That said, there's no red card for jewelry under NFHS. The first such offense is a yellow card to the coach, and each subsequent is a yellow to the player.

I suppose that could lead to a soft red.... whoops, never mind.

Exclamation

I know I've posted this before, but it fits with this thread and we have some newbies, so here goes.

A few years ago, I was working a 6th grade boys game in our local kids rec league. Just prior to the start, one of the players came up to me and said, "We have to take off all our jewelry, right?" I nodded and looked at him. I didn't see any jewelry. He then said, "So I have to take off my nipple rings, right?" Notice he said "rings" in the plural. At first I thought he was kidding, but he wasn't, so I just nodded again. He turned to his coach and said, "Coach, I have to go to the locker room for a minute." He then left the court.

My partner turned to me and asked, "How would you like to be that kid's dad?" My reply was "Uh, no".

Mark T. DeNucci, Sr.: You almost gave me a heart attack. I thought that you were going to say something else.

FWIW, the player didn't receive a red for the jewelry but according to reports a yellow for entering the field without permission after being directed to leave to fix the jewelry and a yellow for being unable to show the referee the jewelry had been removed for privacy reasons.

The video shows the player and referee disappearing into the dressing room after which a straight red is shown (not the yellow then red which would have been shown if the paper's account was correct).

If I had to guess, some offensive, insulting or abusive language was aimed the ref's way in the dressing room and that was the true reason for the sendoff.

I was going through my normal pre-event talk with the competitors when I reminded them that all jewelry must be removed. One of them asked, "What about a Prince Albert?" My response was that if I see it, we have bigger problems than the jewelry rule.
