Thanks Chuck,

Thanks to all the seasoned citizens for the input, especially the one about passion. A favorite "dad to kids" of mine is that whatever you do you need to have passion for it to be your best at it. Maybe that is what stands out when I watch an official and "want to call like him". The other night while watching a girls and then boys varsity games I walked up to one of the officials during halftime and introduced myself as belonging to the same association. We chatted about his years of experience, fourteen, and he said that it was no longer any fun. It was obvious.

Again, thanks.

I have always told myself when it don't become fun anymore I would hang up the sneakers. Have a game tonight butterflies are going. Anyone else get like that?

I like the word passion to describe good officials. They have to have the passion to work to get better. The passion to be on the floor no matter what the level. The passion that this is the most important game in the country. And the passion for the game not the money. In fact as I said before, I haven't seen very many good officials who do this for the money. There are easier ways to make extra money. I won't mention carrying out groceries at the Piggly Wiggly.

Tonight's game? Nope. Girls HS varsity, low skill level and nothing riding on it. Wednesday night? Heck, yeah! 2-whistle game for first place in the (Men's D3) North Atlantic conference. Yeah, it's still early in the conference schedules, but it was a very intense game. Worked with a partner who has a reputation for sometimes mailing in the effort. But he was on his game, and we worked well together. Great game to work.

Here in Michigan we have split seasons. Girls finished in November. Have a Varsity boys and College Womens tomorrow. All 3 whistle. I love it.
