Lane Violations

Here are 3 different scenarios:

1) Def. Player steps into lane b4 hitting rim and free throw is missed.

2) Def player steps in an then off. player steps in b4 hitting rim and free throw missed.

3) Def player steps in lane and shooter steps in lane b4 ball hits rim.

4) Def Player steps in lane and shooter shoots an air ball and misses rim.

What are your NFHS rulings under each scenario??

Couple things that will give you the answer on your own for these questions.

Anytime the defense has a violation, the violation is ignored if the shot is made. If the shot is missed then you apply the violation if it is the first of a lane line violation.

Anytime the offense commits a violation, then the play is dead and they lose the opportunity to complete the FT.

That all being said we only enforce the first lane line violation and ignore the second. Any other violation could cause a double violation which includes anything by the shooter.

Now what do you think the correct rulings are now?

Peace

1) FT shooter gets a replacement FT.

2) FT shooter gets a replacement FT.

3) Double violation. Go to AP arrow.

4) If the shooter was disconcerted, award a replacement FT.
Otherwise, it's a double violation, go to the AP arrow.
