Talking

The past few weekends, I've been working spring rec league. Yesterday, I had a particularly vocal crowd for a girls varsity game. The two schools are heated rivals in the regular season, and I guess it carries over to rec ball.

One team was far more agressive and got called for many more fouls. They lost by 12 points, and the game wasn't really close at all.

After the game, as I was walking towards the lobby to get a drink before the next game, I was approached by one of the moms. She started getting in my face about the foul calls against her daughter's team.

Immediately, I remembered what my buddy Dave said to do in this situation. I asked her, very loud and right in her face, if she had permission to talk to me. She stopped immediately and asked me what I meant. I told her that no one could talk to me without permission and that if she wanted to talk to me she would have to make an appointment with my secretary. I then turned and walked away.

She just stood there speechless. Thanks Dave.

That is a good approach for the loud ones. Even after 27 years those are the ones who give me the most trouble. I tend to get loud also, but will try Dave's Way next year.

Do you mean you don't understand the original post, or you don't understand the reply?

Milan21: See the topic on the discussion board entitled "blasting refs is a no-no!" by Tim Harris. Then read the 4th post by Mark Padgett. Excellent advice. Can't wait to try it next season.
