A twist on a thread below. A has the ball with 2 seconds left standing next to the sidline. He heaves the ball up in the air over the sideline so that it is going to land hight in the upper level of seats. Is the ball OOB (i.e. does the clock stop) as soon as it apparent that there is no possible play on the ball, or not until the ball actually touches something OOB?

The ball is not out of bounds until it touches something or someone that is out of bounds.

The clock will stop on the whistle. Assuming this situation occurs on a throw-in after a made basket with the clock running, the clock continues to run until the ball touches someone or something out of bounds and the whistle is blown.
