Team Control during Throw in

I'd like your thoughts. I am working on a survey that asks if I woul be in favor of the NFHS rule changing to have Team Control during a throw in. Here is the question:
Having “team control” during a throw-in? Outcome: An illegal screen or any foul by the throw-in team would be considered a team-control foul resulting in a throw-in to the offended team. Currently, free throws could be awarded if a team is in the bonus.
Answer options: Yes, No, No Opinion

While a small part of me enjoys having this difference, I wouldn't mind this rule change. It sure seems like it would more consistently follow the reasoning behind not shooting FTs on TC fouls to begin with.
As long as it's written to maintain the status quo WRT backcourt violations and backcourt counts.

Agree with Snaqwells, and not just because I hoarked this one up this year on a common foul during a throw-in and missed a merited free-throw.

I would be in favor of it. All that would be required is to add an exception allowing the throw in team the ability to throw the ball into the backcourt anytime like they do in NCAA.

FIBA has TC during a TI:
  • Fouls are TC fouls, so no shots.
  • BC violations exist.
  • When inbounding near the DL, the official must clearly announce to the thrower-in the location of the TI. AR: A BC violation is always a FC TI for the new team.
  • DL TIs can use the BC.

That is a lot of abbreviations :p

FYI, every level of basketball save NFHS has team control during a throw-in.

TIL that NFHS is the only ruleset to not have TC during a TI. :)

I vote "yes."

From a layman's perspective, the team that has the throw-in is "on offense." Yet, a "offensive foul" is not necessarily a team control foul, particularly in the case of throw-ins. I like the consistency that "all" offensive fouls result in the ball out of bounds.

Interesting timing of this question. Last night, in a well-publicized VG game where the winning team would make the tournament, Team A had a one-point lead and the throw-in with :04 left in the game. A1 committed a foul during the throw-in, resulting in two free throws for Team B. With this rule change, Team B would have to go the length of the court, instead.

Oh, she missed both free throws. Team A won.

(Aside to 26YG.... Team A: Bangor, Team B: Brewer, played at the Aud.)

I am in favor of the rule change also. I am not sure on the BC violation, I think I would like to see the BC violation as it is now, only once FC possesion is achieved in bounds.

Forget surveys.

Have a poll.

That's the only definitive way to decide anything.

Which, with TC on a throw in, would occur the moment someone touched the ball in the FC. That would then make it illegal to muff the throwin pass and retrieve it in the backcourt.

The backcourt rule would need to be rewritten to cover the scenario equitably.

Wouldn't be that hard. Just copy the text from the NCAA rule book.
