My two cents

Volleyball CAN BE extremely easy to officiate, but it may, at times, be that way because the official is getting away with performing a less-than-competent job. By and large, many spectators at the high school levels and below, do not understand the game beyond it's most simplistic levels. (Bump, set, spike. In or out.) However, as all of you know, when it comes to basketball, the crowds are larger and more vocal, because EVERYONE at a basketball game knows ALL of the rules. Don't they? :) At most basketball games there is a larger contingent of ignorant, obnoxious fans to question your every call.

In volleyball there are many calls that could be ignored, and no one would know the difference, except for, perhaps, the coaches, who are not allowed to express their displeasure to the degree that basketball coaches are all too often allowed to. In my opinion, volleyball can sometimes be so easy that you feel like you are stealing, but if it feels that way every time out, you may be cheating the game.

My two cents-

I started officiating volleyball, because they needed help at the recreational level, and I thought It would be easy. I find that I am more tired after standing on the stand for two-three hour doing volleyball matches. I come off the stand feeling worse(feet hurt, back really aches). Mentally it is more taxing to me.....Maybe because I have not grasped the sport as much as basketball.....To me it is a quicker game and things happen quicker in volleyball.
