NF - Been getting some diffetent feedback for the signal used for an illegal screen call. Should I use

Hold
Push
or
Block

Can the signal be any of the three based on the action of the player setting the illegal screen or should it just be push or block.

Thanks

Larks

I usually give the block signal. Unless it's an obvious hold.

It *can* be any of the above. It's usually a block.

If the coach wants a further explanation, I sometimes give an additional signal to show what the player did (hold out the elbow, move to the side, stick out a knee, grab the jersey, ...)

Of course, in some of my games, I'll also be giving the "team control" signal. Good rule, lousy signal.

It is a real lousy signal if that is very close to the way that you kick in a made basket on a foul!

No, you may be thinking of the pro mechanic which is also similar to the new NCAA women's mechanic for this call. In men's, a team control foul is indicated with the same signal that is used for a player control foul (hand behind head). I think it will cause a lot of confusion early in the season.

I use push or hold, depending on the action, for above the waist contact by the screener.
For contact below the screener's waist, I use block.
