B/G Varsity Doubleheader

Leaving to go call games. The four teams involved have a combined record of 13 wins and 73 losses. Should be interesting.

No one; he just refuses to stop wearing a belt. ;)

I knew this would not be the highest quality, but I thought the games might at least be competitive, and therefore interesting. Think again. Visitors blew the home team out in both games. One unusual note. V girls pressed the whole first half and led by the almost incredible count of 37-7. In the second half, no pressure, both teams played their starters to the end, and they pretty much traded basket. Final margin was 33.

One of those nights......

I had two lower-middle, to bottom tier VG teams last night and it was a train wreck. We talked about it at pre-game, but weren't quite prepared for what went on.

We were in the bonus with 1:34 remaining in the first quarter. Sigh. I guess they didn't adjust to our calls? Ya think?

Second half was more of the same. Only this time, we were in the bonus with 2:05 left in the third quarter (gotta be a record for me).

So many violations, jump balls, and fouls. Girls totally out of control. Blech.

We had a guy from our association at the table doing the clock and he said the V missed 24 FT's. They lost by 20.....

The VB officials laughed and joked about it, asked about our calls, positioning, asked questions, etc.

When I went out to watch a bit of their game........yuk. Terrible. I shoulda stuck around until half time! :p

My deal last night is bugging me. One of those which makes one say "If they were all like this, I wouldn't do this." Both games were over in the first quarter. As posted earlier, home girls trailed by 30 at the half. V boys coach was a nicer guy, I suppose. He pulled off his press with a minute left in the first quarter, leading 27-6. Yet the home fans were the nastiest I have seen in a long time. They *****ed about every call, every non-call, and everything in between.

Did we work the same gym?

I told the VB Officials on their way out that if they needed help with a call or rules interpretation to ask the guy in row 17, seat F3. He knows it all.

Like I told my partner the other night: Some people need to learn how to take an *** kicking the right way.

My BV game stayed around a 10 point differential most of the night but didn't feel that close. One player picked up 4 fouls in a minute. 2 player control fouls on consecutive possessions and then a foul at the other end. When he demonstratively and loudly objected to my partner's call as he was heading to the table, I called a technical (which was his fifth foul). At the time of that little incident, the team fouls were 7 to 0 in the second half. The team committed 28 fouls in the game and I'm wondering if the box score in the paper underreported the actual number.

Blowout game Unsportsmanlike?

Here in Utah, we had a GV game 108-3 blowout that made the local TV news. Some angry people wanting to know where the sportsmanship went. 56-0 at half.....very discouraging, obviously, for the losers.....

If anyone is curious about the media response to this game, here's an article I found:

108-3? Did Christian Heritage do the right thing? - ABC 4.com - Salt Lake City, Utah News

When I played, a school in our conference was competing for the state championship every year. We weren't. It was normal for us to get beat by 50-70 points by them. I turned out just fine.

The results of a poll.

41% said I was ok.
31% disagreed.
18% had no opinion.

I can't wait for the statisticians on the Forum to get into this one.

Is that a 10% margin of error or more?
