I have an Email into the state...and asked for there ruling to determine what the state wants.....That way if the state says its okay...then I will not deal with it.....if the state goes the other way.....it should be enforced evenly where the players go in the state

good point Mick. As some have suggusted it is a safty issue. I don't see any safty issue concerning a rubberband.

Catch a finger in it and lots of bad things can happen. As I said before, the chance is remote, but it won't happen when I'm working because it will be off the wrist.

A few years ago in a rec game, I had a kid get his finger caught under another players rubber band and it dislocated his finger. I know the odds against that are astronomical, but it happened.

From that day on - no rubber bands - period.

stan,
I don't ask.
I just say, "Make the rubberband go away."
We ain't votin'.
Just as an aside, somewhat of a legal tip (both rules-wise and liability wise in some cases):

The R has no authority to order a player to remove any dangerous article, just the authority to prohibit a player from playing with those dangerous articles.

Listen carefully the next time you're at an airport security checkpoint. They (should) say, "May I look in your bag?" instead of "Let me search your bag."

yeah, but if you say no, they still won't let you on the plane until they look at it and you'll have more trouble than you bargained for.

Same thing with jewelery - if the player tries to come in with it on, they won't play.

Also, a rubber band is definately more of a safety issue than a sweatband. First, a sweatband is usually more visible than a rubbber band, both size and colorwise. Also, a snapped rubber band can probably do more damage than a snapped sweatband.

How 'bout the ears, or bicep, or calves>
I think it's okay for a player to put her ears, bicep or claves around the ankles.

Of course, I prefer it when the ankles are up around the ears ...

Does that then make the rubber bands "necessary equipment"?

I tell them they won't play any better with them on. Or make a joke and say that we can't have players with rubberbands because it makes them play better.
