What I learned

Not that I haven't learned a lot, but it sound like a good thread title.

I'll share one and you guys can share.

I learned last year that there is more to being the "R" than tossing the ball.

Now, I know there is more, but I had a problem in a game where the 3 of us weren't calling the game the same. U1 and I were calling it tight, while U2 was calling it loose.

What I learned was, I need to get U2 to get with our game since I was the "R".

I didn't do it because I didn't know how. We've got to lean to communicate without offending a partner. I have since learned to do that.

The players need consistency.

What have you learned?

I learned that I really need to drop about 30 pounds to be effective.

Or maybe you needed to get with his game. I've had plenty of mediocre games as R.

I dropped 20 and that has helped. Another 5-10 wouldn't hurt. And I think if I can find some PF Flyers referee shoes, I will have it covered.

I learned that Snaqs needs to lose 30 pounds to be effective.

I'm not sure how many times he must do that, or whether he becomes more effective each time.

Not at all, some of my best friends are Democrats. Actually, it was a reference to this post:

democrat

That post was a reference to my voting more than once.

I've learned not to eat onions prior to a game.

I learned that every coach is always in a better position than you and your partner(s) to see every play.

Too funny. I worked a game several years ago with a guy who was turning 70. Frosh boys. Coach working him over pretty good - wanting a foul. Partner listens to his gripe, then walks behind him, sits in his chair, gets up and says - I guess you really can see better from here. There are only about 15 people in gym but all were laughing. Coach not heard from again.

If I'd have done that coach would have been all over my a$$.

And rightly so. I can't imagine EVER doing that...pretty unprofessional.

Going along with the theme, I've learned that coaches' five second counts are always at least two seconds faster than ours.
