Another 3/10 of a second question

With 3/10 of a second on the clock and the score tied. A1 in bound passes to A2 who tips ball in and when returning to the floor fouls B2 who had legal guarding position. What is the out come? NFHS Rules please Reference.

Just learning here; but PC on A2 no basket. If time expires going to overtime

Disallow the basket, because of the PC foul and prepare for overtime; Rule 4-41-1, 5,6 AND 7

Did he foul B2 before or after returning to the floor?
If BEFORE, PC foul on A2, no basket. Assuming this took place at the end of 4th qtr, give both teams an extra TO, we're going to OT.
A2 is considered airborne shooter til he returns to the floor.

If AFTER, basket good, ball dead, assess foul only if intentional or flagrant. Game over, A wins
4-1, pg 25
4-19-1 note, and 4-19-6, pg 30

You're welcome

how can we have a PC foul with no Player control? you cannot control the ball with 3/10s or less on the clock.

Read the definition of airborne shooter.

Happens all the time when the ball is released on a try (ending the PC) before the contact (which is still a PC foul).

I get the point of the call. but did he ever really have control of the ball. Player control just doesn't fit. I understand that is the rule as per deff of airborn shooter but the verbage bothers me I guess.:)

While you may not be able to catch and shoot a ball with 3/10ths, there is no reason a player can't control the ball in that time.

According to 5-2-5 "a player may not gain control" I will agree with the tapper being an airborne shooter and the player control foul though. Thanks for all the help folks.
