Illegal Shoe

I just received notice that the Concept One Shoe is illegal for NFHS. I ref in Pennsylvania and we just heard about this shoe, has anyone else in different states been told about this shoe yet? THis is what the bulletin states:

BANNED SHOE
A new product named Concept 1 Shoe has been under investigation of breaking Rule 3-5-4 for greatly increasing a player’s height. Based on this information, the product is prohibited for competition based on NFHS Basketball Rule 3-5-4. It states “Equipment which is unnatural and designed to increase a player’s height or reach or to gain an advantage shall not be
permitted. Equipment and apparel shall not be modified from the original manufactured state and shall be worn in the manner the manufacturer intended it to be worn.”

More information can be found at http://www.athleticpropulsionlabs.co...unchtechnology.

Yep - Kansas has also ruled the shoe is illegal.

Banned in IL.

I think it's also banned in NBA.

Banned in CO.

I'm not sure "banned" is the right word for it. More like "prohibited from being worn while participating". Sorta like jewlery or improperly-colored headbands.

But yes, it's not legal to wear during competition in MN.

The link above didn't work for me, so here's where I found it: APL Basketball Shoes | Concept 1 Black | Athletic Propulsion Labs Men?s Footwear

I haven't heard of this before today, and after reading the site, it sounds like a scam to me.

The patent-pending Load ‘N Launch™ technology is implanted in a cavity in the forefoot of the basketball shoe and is designed to provide an instant improvement in vertical leap.*

Scam or not, we've been instructed not to allow players to wear this shoe in CO.

So are you going to line the players up like a little kids' soccer match and check all their shoes? I honestly don't think I ever look at a players' shoes unless they are some hideous color that grabs my attention. The black with the lime green might attract my eye, but the white colored APL shoes I would never even notice.

What procedure did the State give you guys to check the shoes?

We will just look during warmups, the site that I posted has some great pictures, the best thing to look for is the name APL on the shoe, that site that I posted will come up as an error, but if you scroll to the bottom of the page you will still see the shoe. See if this works better:

They didn't, and I'm not sure I'd notice. We haven't been instructed to go fishing, if that answers your question.
