Smile OT - I was right, as usual

In a previous thread, I mentioned how a Cal player faked an injury in the Oregon-Cal football game in order to slow down the Duck offense. I took a lot of flak here, mostly claiming I was just quoting off some fanboy site (which I never even look at). Well, the story just came out and the Cal line coach did get his player to fake an injury and now that coach has been suspended.

I read a similiar story the week you posted, which made me wonder why you got so much flak. It seemed to be common knowledge that the Cal player faked the injury, not that the officiating crew could do anything about it.

I don't know whether it was a matter of flak or just a case of most respondants pointing out that the actual officiating of the game had nothing to do with the faking of injury problem. They're 2 very separate topics.

I never saw anything where Mark indicated that the officiating crew did anything wrong. The thread was on dishonesty. He brought up the Cal player faking an injury and that the Pac-10 had stated that NCAA rules did not address it. That was pretty much it. Sure seemed like dishonesty on the part of the Cal player and coach to me.

That's exactly right. I didn't imply or state the officials did anything wrong. My issue was with the Cal player faking the injury.

All I said was the videos didn't prove anything. I stand by that.

And now you're just one happy l'il fanboy, aren't you?

Note for the records, folks, that the situation discussed had nothing at all to do with the officiating in that game. The officials did exactly what they were supposed to...and have to.... do. Stop play for an injured player. Whether the player was faking an injury or not is never a decision to be made by the officials. Faking injuries is a league matter.
