Wherever children gather, idiots will hover

I was volunteering my officiating services Saturday at a local fundraiser tournament where my son was playing. It was fun, and a good chance to give back to the local community.

As I was heading out, apparently early in one person's estimation (I had to leave before the final round to get to a pair of HS games a couple hours away), I was stopped by a parent who insisted that I needed to "get in there", and to watch one particular kid's hands. When I suggested he needed to relax and that it wasn't that big a deal, he very imperiously reminded me, "Isn't that your JOB?".

Oh, did I mention this was a chess tournament? Some people's parents

BTW, I was disappointed that they didn't introduce me with the appropriate theme music. Now where are Mark's meds?

Thankfully, no. There a little too much snow right now to be playing outside!

Actually, the Vikings have not really done as well since they moved indoors.

This is Mother Nature's Christmas gift to them...a return to the great outdoors.

The one an only time I've been cursed out by a parent was after a pre-season Y-league game, and I volunteered for that one.

This one comes down to "consider the source." When he initally identified himself as #23's father, I asked him "blue or white?"

That dumbfounded him.

Exclamation

You think refereeing chess is unusual. Try refereeing goldfish racing.

I wonder if they have an illegal use of fins penalty?

...what would be really cool, is for the winner to "get to" swallow the losing goldfish.

BTW...I love that quote, "Wherever children gather, idiots will hover"...may I borrow that one?...

I'm betting that your question merely uncovered a pre-existing condition (chronic dumbfoundedness?). A classic case of "consider the source"

I'm guessing his vocabulary only consisted of "3 SECONDS!"?
