Wherever children gather, idiots will hover
I was volunteering my officiating services Saturday at a local fundraiser tournament where my son was playing. It was fun, and a good chance to give back to the local community.
As I was heading out, apparently early in one person's estimation (I had to leave before the final round to get to a pair of HS games a couple hours away), I was stopped by a parent who insisted that I needed to "get in there", and to watch one particular kid's hands. When I suggested he needed to relax and that it wasn't that big a deal, he very imperiously reminded me, "Isn't that your JOB?". Oh, did I mention this was a chess tournament? Some people's parents  BTW, I was disappointed that they didn't introduce me with the appropriate theme music. Now where are Mark's meds? |

The one an only time I've been cursed out by a parent was after a pre-season Y-league game, and I volunteered for that one.
This one comes down to "consider the source." When he initally identified himself as #23's father, I asked him "blue or white?" That dumbfounded him. |
You think refereeing chess is unusual. Try refereeing goldfish racing.
I wonder if they have an illegal use of fins penalty? Go, fish! Go! Could goldfish racing be the next karaoke? | OregonLive.com |
