Question

Ok, from an old test that is being circulated to prepare for this years test.

An unsportsmanlike foul may be a personal foul.

True or false.

I say false as a personal foul involves illegal contact,
and an unsporting foul is a non-contact technical foul.

I am being told that I am wrong, any idea why?
Please cite rule references for your decision.

Scott,

Rule 4-19-13: "An unsporting foul is a noncontact technical foul which consists of unfair, unethical or dishonorable conduct." Examples are then listed. Hope you didn't make made a big wager on it

(Sorry, I mis-read your answer! Good job)

Chuck

Ok Chuck, but I still say false.
That an unsportsmanlike foul, is NOT a personal foul.

I agree with your citation of the rule (of course) but I can't figure out why some of the local guys would say that an unsportsmanlike can be a personal foul.
I did take off most of last year but I don't think I lost too many brain cells while idle.

The correct answer is "false" and NFHS R4-S19-A1 and A13 support the "false" answer. Personal fouls are contact fouls when the ball is live plus the airborne shooter exception. R4-S19-A13 describes a non-contact foul.

And you're right. I edited my answer above slightly. Sorry!

Hmm, would this be a correctable error?
