Houston, TX

I am relocating to Houston, TX shortly, and while I haven't done much research yet, I know that there are some on here who are from that area.

If anyone could provide a few comments about how being "certified," belonging to an association, and getting assignments works, that would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the area - PM me where exactly you're moving to. For you Yankees, saying you're moving to Houston is about as geographically precise as saying you're moving to Massachusetts without saying where. I live "in Houston" (Katy, really). My parents live "in Houston" (Spring, really). Takes about an hour to get to their house. An umpiring buddy lives "in Houston" (Beaumont really), and we're 2:15 apart (worse on a weekday).

And I live in "Houston" (Richmond) which is about 40 minutes from downtown and 45 minutes from Mr. Crowder. It's a huge area to say the least.

Yes, and I'm not downtown. You, Houston, and I make a big Triangle. Add in Cypress (45 min from me), Humble (45 min from Cypress), and maybe Clear Lake (45ish from Humble, 45ish from Welpe), and you have a Trivial Pursuit piece. Once Beltway 8 is completed, they say it will take 2 1/2 hours to drive all the way around Houston on it (highway, no lights or stops - assuming you have a tolltag).
