I had failed to thank all of you for your input earlier so here it is ... THANK YOU.

I have passed a copy of this thread to the head of the league for incorporating some of the suggestions into the rules.

I wanted to let you all know of one thing that we're going to do that I think is pretty ingenious. We require players to play man-to-man. Zone defenses are not allowed and double teaming is only allowed in the paint. This has been a problem in the past because some of the younger guys and gals sometimes lose their man and end up just guarding the player with the ball. To assist both players, coaches and referees, we are going to give each of the five players a different colored sweatband and they will be told to guard the opponent with the same colored band as they are wearing. Of course, we'll let the coaches decide who guards whom. I think this will help the situation immensely.

Question about Questions from a Coach

I love the sweat bands. What a great idea. In my involvement with younger age group rec leagues, we always had the kids pair up at the beginning of each quarter. Your approach is even better because it lets the youngsters find their "man" during play.
