One win in 8 Finals games, and Philly fans are all giddy.

Don't be turning into Cubs fans.

As long as Detroit doesn't win, I'm ok. That has far more to do with a co-worker than with any hockey knowledge I might pretend to have, or anything more than apathy when it comes to hockey.

Just to give you some background. I had Blackhawk season tickets for two seasons back in the Bobby Hull - Stan Mikita days. In one game, I saw Bobby's brother, Dennis Hull, take a slapshot from his side of the center ice red line and it shattered the glass behind the other team's goal. Now that's power.

When I was about 12, I got to meet Bobby when he was doing some promotions for the company my dad worked for. Mostly I remember shaking hands with him and noting how huge his hands were.

BTW, since this is an OT thread, here's some other celebrities I've shaken hands with:

Of course, I've met and shaken hands with tons of other athletes.

Show Business:
The Rat Pack including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Joey Bishop.
Rodney Dangerfield
Jerry Lewis (two different times)
The Smothers Brothers
Carol Burnett
Steve Lawrence
Jim Morrison
Joe Cocker

National Politicians:
Adlai Stevenson (was at a dinner with him when I was three)
Jimmy Carter
Eugene McCarthy
Bobby Kennedy
John Anderson
Hillary Clinton
tons of others, local and state

One guy I wish I had the chance to meet was Steve Allen. I never met him but my mom went to HS with him and Mel Torme.

Bob Cousy, promoting his sneaker line at Bradlees. Got a signed black and white photo. My parents threw it out when I moved out of the house. Wish I still had it.

Destiny

I shook hands with J. Dallas Shirley when I was 12 at GWU's "Tin Tabernacle" on the grounds of Ft. Myer, VA. Haven't washed it since....

Never realized the significance til I started officiating 40 years later

Did he ever ask you to not call him "Shirley"?

hey, padgett....you're probably still hungover from partying late into the night on the streets of chicago - tipping over cars - setting stuff on fire....but CONGRATULATIONS on the hawks SC championship.

no way did any of us see this coming as recently as 5 years ago when hockey was mired in apparent apathy in the windy city.

now, it the BLUES turn!
