Why the disdain? FIBA rules are used in most of the world, US excluded. One thing they do provide is a consistent set of rules across levels and accoss countries. In the U.S., following rules from high school to women's college, to men's college to the nba will make you dizzy and confused if you are looking for a consistent rationale.

US olympic teams used to reasonably have disdain for players outside the US. Now that would be just plain silly. I think most high level players realize that the rest of the world is catching up and has something to offer on the court. And in the rule book.

I take the high road when it comes to making jokes about Third World sports such as soccer.

My disdain has nothing to do with FIBA, although there are certain FIBA rules I don't like. It's all about soccer. :D

Sheez, I suppose they were "helping the kids with their math?"

I would tell the coach that I am also counting 10(8) seconds to my self and unfortunately the two counts are confusing me. So when I get confused I start again from the beginning.

"Coach, you know full well countin gdown the shot or game clock is completely different than what your players are doing with these other counts. No, I won't consider them the same."

Frankly, I would find the coach's response insulting.

FIBA is trying to be more like the NBA. Hence the 8 second backcourt and 24 second shot clock.

8 second BC i don't have a problem with but 24 seconds for all levels lower than university I think is too short.
