Sleeve Question

Is the "sleeve" the thugs have made so popular in the nba, legal in NFHS?

If so, does it follow the uniform rule as for color?

I do not have updated books available for hoops, abut was asked and I do not know the answer to the question.

IMHO: I think that there is truly no need for it in the game, unless a Dr. has specifically stated it. To me its like the sweatbands and the UA bands...

Thanks

Yes, but must be worn for a medical reason per NFHS 3-5-2

". . . Guards, casts, braces and compression sleeves must meet the
following guidelines:

a. A guard, cast or brace made of hard and unyielding leather, plaster, pliable
(soft) plastic, metal or any other hard substance may not be worn on the
elbow, hand, finger, wrist or forearm; even though covered with soft
padding.
b. Hard and unyielding items (guards, casts, braces, etc.) on the upper arm or
shoulder must be padded.
c. Knee and ankle braces are permitted but all exposed hinges must be
covered. Most over-sleeves recommended by manufacturers are
acceptable. These braces may be padded or unpadded.
d. Must be worn for medical reasons."

No, any color is allowed. This item is covered in the same rule as guards, casts, and braces, not headbands or sweatbands, so is treated in that manner.

Per the NFHS no documentation is required just a statement from the player or coach that it is worn for medical purposes. However, some state associations have imposed their own regulation and do require written authorization. So check with your specific state.

In these parts they are allowed only if medically necessary but does not require anything from a doctor just a question to the player or head coach.
No color requirements are given in the book.

Here in NC, we just received about a month ago the interpretation that we are to assume these are for medical purposes if worn, and are not to ask the player and/or coach.

But as others have stated, to be legal it must be worn for a medical purpose.

In Oregon, they are required to have documentation in order to wear the sleeve.

That's what happens here as well, although I've heard different stories from varsity refs regarding what we're required to do to verify. Some just assume it's for medical reasons, others will ask and accept the answer, and one stated she would require a doctor's note.

Upon what does she base that requirement?

I always find it interesting that the players in the NBA are thugs, but in a sport that allows fighting as apart of the fabric of the sport and you do not get ejected from games if this takes place, they are tough players?

For the record, I see more "white kids" wearing these things than any kids that look like they could play in the NBA. But I guess that makes them thugs too?

Peace

I believe in ping pong (I imagine that's the sport to which you refer) they call them "enforcers."

Ha ha..was thinking the exact same thing when I read the OP, what makes them thugs just b/c they play in the NBA? However, I do find intersting your last couple of statements - so what exactly does a kid look like who "looks like they could play in the NBA?" ;) Hello pot, kettle here..
