Sleeve Question
Is the "sleeve" the thugs have made so popular in the nba, legal in NFHS?
If so, does it follow the uniform rule as for color? I do not have updated books available for hoops, abut was asked and I do not know the answer to the question. IMHO: I think that there is truly no need for it in the game, unless a Dr. has specifically stated it. To me its like the sweatbands and the UA bands... Thanks |

". . . Guards, casts, braces and compression sleeves must meet the following guidelines: a. A guard, cast or brace made of hard and unyielding leather, plaster, pliable (soft) plastic, metal or any other hard substance may not be worn on the elbow, hand, finger, wrist or forearm; even though covered with soft padding. b. Hard and unyielding items (guards, casts, braces, etc.) on the upper arm or shoulder must be padded. c. Knee and ankle braces are permitted but all exposed hinges must be covered. Most over-sleeves recommended by manufacturers are acceptable. These braces may be padded or unpadded. d. Must be worn for medical reasons." Quote:

In these parts they are allowed only if medically necessary but does not require anything from a doctor just a question to the player or head coach.
No color requirements are given in the book. |
Here in NC, we just received about a month ago the interpretation that we are to assume these are for medical purposes if worn, and are not to ask the player and/or coach.
But as others have stated, to be legal it must be worn for a medical purpose. |
In Oregon, they are required to have documentation in order to wear the sleeve.

For the record, I see more "white kids" wearing these things than any kids that look like they could play in the NBA. But I guess that makes them thugs too? Peace |

And BTW, we had discussed this issue so much as it relates to the sleeves, this topic has become redundant. Peace |

I do not know anyone in the NBA that has been in so much more trouble than any other league. Actually many NBA players are very good citizens like any other league in our country. And wearing a sleeve has nothing to do with thuggery or doing anything illegal. There are always people that will break the law. I know officials that have broken the law, does that mean we are all thugs because of a few of us. I know that officials would not like it if we were all called cheaters for what one professional official decided to do. ;) Peace |
