Has anybody been watching the WNBA playoffs except me? I need someone to help me with what I thought I saw today, but I'm not sure.
LA against Seattle. LA ahead by quite a few, last three minutes or so of the game. I think what happened was that an LA player shoved the ball into a Seattle player's face, causing a minor injury, it appeared, and getting a technical foul. (Unfortunately, the circumstances under which I was watching the live broadcase were less that prime, and the tape I thought was running at home, wasn't. AUGH!!! I guess I haven't got the hang of Saturdays, either...) If someone could enlighten me about the specifics, and then comment on this play in light of the discussions we have had about fouls without body contact, I'd appreciate it. |

Nope,
I only watch professional basketball.
|
Now that the smaert-asses are through posting...I did not see the game, but under both Fed and NCAA rules the play you describe could be ruled unsportmanlike conduct (or unsporting conduct as I believe the correct term is) which would be a T...
|
Golly
My answer wasn't meant to be "smaert-assed". It is exactly how an awful lot of people feel.
|
The definition of professional basketball is that the players are paid to play. So, like it or not, the WNBA is professional basketball. There's nothing wrong with the WNBA. If you don't like it, that's fine. But there's no need to put it down for those who do.

You need to smoke something and relax!!

Don't get your litte girl panties in a wad, Rutledge. The remark was a smarta$$ reply to rainmaker, just like rocky stated.
BTW, you, a white hat? Gimme a break! http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/jump.gif They must be hard up for referees in Chicago. |
As I said......
only you would try to turn someone's comments into a knock one people that share a different opinion.
And about the white hat thing. It shows that your opinion means nothing in the bigger picture of anything. Peace |

Only you would claim that someone is putting people down because they did not call the WNBA a professional league.
Unbelieveable !!!!!!!!!!! Actually, he isn't the only one. I would too. By definition it is a professional league. It doesn't take much intelligence to see it was a smart-*** reply, but that has never stopped you before. Z |

I will be expecting the same comment from you when someone makes a smart-*** comment about how the NBA is not "basketball" or something to that effect. Peace [Edited by JRutledge on Aug 19th, 2002 at 11:17 AM] |
For Mr. Sensitive
Rutledge, no response to by remark about your idiotic reply above? :(
|
You and Tony are some of the most sensitive people around here.
And that's why you spend days replying to anyone who disagrees with you until you get in the last word? Another fine retort from the king of insecure. and yes...I know it somehow makes sense to you backed up by "Rut's rules" which change on a daily basis depending on your current state of psychosis. :-) Z [Edited by zebraman on Aug 19th, 2002 at 01:01 PM] |
Way to go,Juulie!Ask a simple question and you start WW111.Quite the talent you've got there!
My opinion? 1)Agree with Rocky-technical foul. With the minor injury caused by the contact, you could possibly deem it flagrant, also, especially at lower levels.I would imagine that the WNBA will review the play to see if any further discipline is needed. 2)Of course the WNBA is a professional league. The players, coaches, league administrators, etc. all get paid. They have a TV contact, with more exposure than the NBDL and other minor pro mens leagues. They draw some pretty fair crowds,also-sometimes better than some NBA games. The players in the league are also damn fine, skilled athletes, too. 3)I don't watch much NBA anymore, either. Not because of the officiating, like Dan.It's more for Rec Ref's reasons. The posturing,chest-beating,dissing crap just wears me out.At least in the WNBA,the players seem to play hard, play defense and actually seem to care, too. 4)Rut?I gave up taking anything that he says seriously a long time ago. JMO. |
You go boy!!!!

Wait a minute, you just replied to what I said to you. What does that make you in your world? Peace |
Waiting for diversity
I prefer the WNBA a little more diversity in it. The NBA needs to adopt corporate America's policy and have racial % requirements on each team. I can't relate.

the way it's called. The game is ruined because of the way the game is played and the way the players act. And you see less of that in the wnba (which I do watch). Quote:

So to sum up, no one saw that specific play.
DARN. I'm assuming from the shots with the lane cleared, that there was a T. But I was hoping that someone else got a better shot at it than me. Is anyone disappointed that Indiana lost? I like them for some reason, and was hoping for better. Tony, I know you are older and wiser than me, but my motherly nag voice is taking over here... Just let him have the last word. So what? |

Besides, Hillary's "home" is wherever is most convenient to her - if the Canadian Parliament had an open seat, she'd learn French and claim she was born in Montreal. |

And - my grandfather worked for Al Capone (really). He always said Al was a really good guy and it was a shame what the feds did to him. All I know is that we always got a free turkey on Thanksgiving. You're right about Hillary, though. :p Note to Juulie - Paul Allen should put the Fire on ASCN. That way, my cable system wouldn't carry them (that's an inside Portland-area joke). |

He doesn't need me to make a fool of himself, juules. He'll respond to anybody or anything. He and Hillary Clinton deserve each other. BTW, imagine! A black man who doesn't like Jesse helms! :D |

BTW, I know many white people that do not like Jesse Helms either. The difference is they do not live in North Carolina. That is probably the only place he could pull the crap he does and still get elected. The fact that you like the man tells me all I need to know about you. ;) Peace |
Exactly! I know that if I put yoiur name in my posts, you have to respond. You can't help it! You have to!
http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/jump.gif BTW, I forgot you have that idiot, Jesse Jackson in Illnoise!! GMAFB! Good night all! |
Jesse Jackson is the only "idiot" in our government that can get American Hostages out of Hostile Countries in this country. So I will take that idiot over someone that is not liked outside of his own district.
No wonder you think the way you do, you only can think what goes on in North Carolina. Chicago and the area is known and visited by people all over the country and world. What do they do in North Carolina but have tabacco fields? Great legacy in North Caaroolna. I mean Illinois has corn, but much more to see here. I guess that is why MJ does not live there. I guess that is why pro players hang out and play ball in North Caaarrooollinna too? Peace |

All of the above is courtesy of your own Chicago newspapers. Methinks that you could make a great sitcom out of the true-life tales of the two Jesse's and Hilary.:D [Edited by Jurassic Referee on Aug 20th, 2002 at 04:24 AM] |
Jurassic, you forgot that, just like Al Capone, Jesse Jackson has no job. He has no income, yet somehow, makes millions of dollars. And, exactly when did the Reverend become part of our government?

I know exactly what you mean. If I hadn't seen it happen on so many other posts, I'd take it personally. Even so, it's hard to understand why so many people who "enjoy" the WNBA didn't see a play that happened on national TV on a Saturday afternoon. Eli or Drake -- Do you have any info on this play that you would be allowed to share? |
I had an excuse.

rainmaker,
I did not see the play, and i do not know the rules used in the WNBA. If the foul was not flagrant, then it is a player control foul.(no shots). If it is flagrant, two shots. I don't think a flagrant foul has to be penalized with disqualification. I am only guessing. Wish I could help. |
Rainmaker,
I did not see the play. I have never watched much pro basketball (men or women), but since Sue Bird came to Seattle, I must admit that I enjoy watching the Storm. I was busy this weekend and did not watch any TV. From what you described, it sounds like the official thought that the L.A. player did something unsportsmanlike so a technical foul seems reasonable. Z |

You've had a great year with the Storm, haven't you? I must admit, I've been a little envious, although I'm glad it wasn't us that was stomped by LA in the post-season. |
