Talking "Blue, 23, with a tickle"

Last night, I was driving home past a local MS right near my house and I thought I'd stop and watch some of the "competitive" rec game that was going on, since I knew the two officials who were working it. They both did a really good job. One of the officials, a gal whose husband also officiates, had a funny way of signaling a block. When she put her hands down on her waist, she would kind of "tickle" herself with both hands while reporting the foul.

I hadn't worked a game with her in about two years and I certainly think I would have remembered her doing this. When I left, I had the opportunity to ask her about it, but I thought I'd just let it be. BTW - there were a few comments about how funny it looked from parents in the bleachers near where I was sitting.

It was just kind of weird.

Oh yeah, these parents knew as much about the rules as most parents.

So Juulie was working the game?

Just kidding, Juulie... trying to get you to come out of the woodwork though.

I've got a game tonight in that same gym. Maybe I'll signal blocks the same way and, if anyone asks about it, just say it's "tradition".

Mark,
That is the universal signal for pants that are too tight around the waist!

So...it's the "anti-Welmer" mechanic?

We had 3 actual jump balls tonight, Mark. Can you guess how that happened?

Certainly hope one of them wasn't to start an extra period....

Perhaps you had 1) an opening jump then a held ball before possession was established, resulting in a 2) real jump ball between the players involved in the held ball. Since this is such a rare occurrence you will be granted an 3) OT exception.
Pray for mercy from Padgett..

Last night one of my partner's and I were watching the JV game before ours.

During a rebound, one of the players reached way over her head to secure the ball and hopped three or four times to regain her footing. L - TWEEEET, travelling.

Mom from the crowd behind us yells, "Aw c'mon ref, you gotta give her a chance to get her balance!"

NICE! Always the helpful parent!

Just found out my partner for one of my games a week from Saturday is "tickle girl". Hope I don't crack up when she does it.
