Mark's right. It's the college culture. My oldest son leaves TWO screen names on at all times. But it is pretty cool that, if you have a kid at college, you can leave a message at any time. And, it just likes he's at home, since he completely ignores what you're saying!

And, just like when he's at home, you can never tell if he heard you or not!
