Correctable error

Team A was fouled and ball was taken out of bounds going other way.Team A dribbles down and throws ball away.Before the ball is given to Team B for a throw in the horn sounds and the table said that the previuos foul was Team B seventh foul so Team A was supposed to shoot a one and one free throw.So we line up and shoot a one and one and play on.I know if we would have put the ball in play it would have been too late to correct since it would have been second live ball.I am a little confused with the case book on this.When would we clear the lane and shoot and then go back to POI?I say we ,but it actually was some other guys that called me an dexplained it.Game was a blowout,but next time it happens it could be a big call.I like to get these things straight for future references.This board usually helps quite a bit.Thanks in advance.

If an error is corrected, play shall be resumed from the point of
interruption to rectify the error, unless it involves awarding a merited free
throw(s) and there has been no change of team possession since the error was
made, in which case play shall resume as after any free-throw attempt(s).
