I agree. I have never had to call it, and haven't seen anyone else call it. Seems like we do it more for show than anything.

I'm guessing those who currently wait until 4 feet would, if the rule was changed to 4 feet, not start counting until it was closer to 3 feet; based on their judgment. I'm guessing they aren't purposefully going to 4 feet, but think 6 feet is a smaller distance than it really is. Changing the rule isn't going to improve their depth perception.

Can you elaborate on your question? I can't say I've been past 7 on this more than a handful of times, ever. Do you have a change in mind?

While it's "never" used, if it wasn't there, some team would find a reason to wait 20-seconds - 2 hours for a FT, if they thought it was to their advantage (perhaps the star has blood on the uniform and just needs a few more seconds to get it cleaned up so s/he can re-enter the game, etc.)

Makes very good sense. Some guy would get smart and use it as a time-out or to set up the play after. Why do coaches ruin our game:D
