Pity Party
Just got done with three straight nights of kids ball and I'm tired.
The league I'm doing has 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade teams. Sad thing is, there is no running clock, not even for the 4th grade league ![]() The other night, we had a game take almost two hours.....talk about torture. Both teams went into the bonus in both halves. It was like herding cattle to get them into the right lane spaces and out of bounds for their throw-ins. That was only one game, though. The rest went pretty well, and there is a running clock in the 4th quarter with a 15-pt lead, which has happened on almost half of the games. I normally stick to 8th grade ball or higher here, but I've been having trouble getting rec league Jr High games, and this league pays the best in the area. Three more nights in a row next week and then the HS season starts...hooray! |

For some reason your story reminds me of the phrase: Death by a thousand paper cuts.

Our local kids rec league plays running clock for 3rd & 4th grade, six minute stop time quarters for 5th & 6th and seven minute stop time for 7th & 8th. Halftimes are three minutes. There are no OTs at 3rd & 4th and only two minute OTs at the other levels (and only one OT). The officials have the authority to not play OTs if the games are running behind. If the game ends in a tie, so be it.
Of course, I never allow OTs anyway, so that point is moot. ![]()
