Thumbs down Just what we need - not!

Watched an episode of Law & Order:CI this afternoon. It's main theme was about a bookie getting murdered. Oh yeah, the bookie was also a "crooked" college basketball referee. They were sure he shaved points and covered his own bets. The most insulting part showed some of the detectives watching a tape of one of his games and commenting on how he was intentionally making bad calls to favor one of the teams. Yeah, like in real life they would be experts on the subject.

There was a scene early on in which a player pushes the ref in the hallway after a game while complaining about a charging call. The kid says, "You fouled me out". More stereotypical behavior in the entertainment media. What can I say.

BTW - even though the show was very recent, the ref had on a collared shirt.

I saw the same episode and noticed the same thing. You would think that, with a budget of millions of dollars, NBC could have a real official check the final draft of the episode? I would only charge them a few thousand dollars. Do I need an agent?

Why is it that EVERY movie or TV show made in the last ten years showing a basketball official puts them in a collared shirt? It's like the entire entertainment industry shares one wardrobe and they have three striped shirts, all with collars.

The refs probably wore collared shirts in "Hoosiers." Besides: who cares (other than refs)?

It's about authenticity. maybe no one cares but the refs, but I find it annoying personally that they don't take the time to even so much as look at a ref during March Madness to see if they have the uniform close.

Agreed, no different than if a fire fighter got irritated by outdated equipment or clothing being used in a fire station scene.

Or seeing modern movies with Air Force using outdated chevron configurations or the old style hats.

Bingo.

No one cares except us curmudgeons. Not enough to make them care. It's not worth their time to.

In Hoosiers, they wore the long-sleeved collared shirts that were common back in the 50's, only though I think the color scheme may have been wrong because I was told the stripes may have been grey and white. The referee even had the shoes down pat, those good old Converse canvas high-tops.
