FT violation or not

Does anyone know if the restrictions on players who are not in a marked lane space are the same in all codes during a FT?
Watching the (I know) NBA Playoffs I’m noticing players breaking the arc prior to the ball hitting the rim/backboard.

Thanks!

You're assuming there are rules in the NBE. Seriously, those officials in the playoffs aren't going to call something that marginal in a playoff game. Besides, I really don't know if in that league, they can do that on the release just like the players along the lane. I'm sure someone will look it up.

BTW - last weekend, in a spring league boys V game, A1 was at the line to shoot one. Coach A pulled all his other players over to the bench to talk with them so the only players on the lane were the four from team B. The shot hit the front of the rim, bounced directly back to A1 who put it back in. The team B players were just shaking their heads.

Used to be same as NCAA/Fed. There was a play where MJ didn't wait and had a spectacular tip dunk coming from outside the lane. They didn't call it and the rule was changed to reflect the play. Might be a rumor.....;)

Rule 9-I-D

"Players not occupying lane spaces must remain on the court behind the three point line above the free throw line extended and may not be touching the line or the floor inside the line when the ball is released"

Rim/backboard are irrelevant.

In the NBA, everyone can enter the lane on the release except for the free throw shooter...

RULE NO. 9—FREE THROWS AND PENALTIES Section I—Positions and Violations

b. The free throw shooter may not step over the plane of the free throw line until the ball touches the basket ring, backboard or the free throw ends.

e. ...All players must remain on the court behind the three point line above the free throw line extended until the ball is released.

Or sometimes sooner than that.
