Talking

I need a ref to be in this short film being made in Austin, TX this Saturday and Sunday. It's independently produced so the part is non-paid but free food and lots of fun.
please email [email protected] for info

No - I'm not driving to Texas just for the BBQ. Sorry. But your post made me remember something about films. There was a major motion picture made in Portland a few years back called "The Temp" with Melanie Griffith. In the movie, there is a scene showing some middle school basketball game. It was filmed at the middle school where one of my brothers-in-law, Jim, was a PE teacher and they asked him to be the game referee in the movie. He said he would and he is in the film. If you ever see it, he's the big, blonde goofy-looking guy in the collared shirt.

Make sure the ref has on black shorts with white socks and white sneakers, a collared shirt (unzipped of course) and a really long lanyard with a silver whistle on it.

Better if the shorts are white with a black stripe down the sides, sox are black but shoes are white and the shirt is long-sleeved with a pocket.

The whistle should have a picture of Geoffery the Giraffe from ToysRUs on it.

Didn't you just describe your own uniform. ;-)

This movie is playing this week on cable. Think it was either TNT or TMC/AMC?? I glanced at it a couple of times. I think it's on again tonight or tomorrow, so will try to look at it.

From what I've heard, it's worth the drive.

Of course, I'm from the BBQ-deprived land of New England, where the word "barbecque" is a verb meaning "to cook outdoors."

Gee - hi Camron. So glad to see you back on this board. Things must be slow at Intel.

No - that's not my own uniform. I don't have a pocket.

BTW - I hope they make sure the ref in their movie calls lots of over the back and reaching fouls - plus signals each two point shot as good.

Don't you guys signal 2 pointers as good?

Gee I learn something new every day - however, not much of the mechanics/rules that I learn here will actually help my refereeing - but it sure is interesting.

Only in cases of confusion/uncertainty. (Meaning I signalled every basket working a tourney where cheerleaders were the scorekeepers.)
