Notable absences (NCAA officials)

Here is a list of officials who were not among the 96 chosen according to my quick review.

- Ted Hilary
- Reggie Greenwood
- Sean Hull
- Bernard clinton
- Zelton Steed
- Donnee Gray
- Paul Faia
- Ray Natili
- Bert Smith
- Jeff Nichols
PS. According to one boxscore, one official was Roger Davis but I assume that was Roger Ayers

Does this mean they won't get any future Tourney games this yr?

johnSandlin Sat Mar 21, 2009 08:19am

Roger was the alternate for the Ohio State/Sienna game last night.

This Roger "Davis" was also in Dayton earlier in the day. So it's got to be Ayers.

I watched Ted Hillary in the OSU-Purdue game last Sunday. He really struggled to get up and down the floor.

Proof that you should smell the roses. D'think he thought last year would be his last year doing the tournament?

Fixed it for you. I'm available after 5:00 p.m. on workdays, and at all times on weekends.

Roger who? Davis or Ayers?

Both FoxSports and ESPN list Roger Davis on the ETSU/Pitt game.

Yes. The officials for the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 come from the original 96 who worked the 1st round games.

Next week each region will have 9 officials working. 3 separate officials for each game: regional semi-final, regional semi-final, regional final. That means 36 officials will work next week and of those 9 will move on to work the National Semi's and Final.

Donnee Gray may have hurt his knee and shut it down for the tourney.

Glad to see that Hilary is not working...he can't run at all.

Thanks for the insight.

Guess the officials have their own kind of bracket going to see who moves on..... ;)

Donnee hasn't been running well all season. I think his limp is still from last year's injury.

He looks like he needs a new knee. Why he continues to get as much work as he does in as bad of condition as he's been in all of this year (and last year) is beyond me.

I do not understand why commissioners and assignors cannot use fresh faces. There are highly qualified people who could actually move who miss out on a shot here.

Of course, this is the same at the HS level, where I see the same faces on TV every single year at our state tournament when there are hundreds of qualified people wondering if they will ever get their shot. This year, I didn't even watch.

Also Interesting

I think the list of names that ended their tournament after the first round is also interesting - most notably Ed Hightower. Maybe the theatrics finally bit him. If that's the case though, you have to wonder how Teddy V managed to get a second round game though.

How do you know that one particular official is done for the tournament?
