Exclamation Whatever shall I do?

The local "competitive" kids league I work ended two weeks ago and our local rec league ends this Saturday. I then have one whole weekend off before kids spring league starts. I can't remember the last time I didn't have any games on a Saturday, so I'm really lost as to what to do.

I guess I can just follow my wife around Nordstrom's carrying her bags.

What do you guys do when games end?

There just might be some basketball on the television.

However, I would recommend banking some QT with your better half.

Watch the refs on TV of course. Last year, I joined a chat board where we could make same-time comments (some sarcastic, some not) about the games and the officials as we watched. Anyone have the link for that this year?

Why not find other things to referee? Some suggestions include:

- people wandering around the local mall. Call violations for walking too slow etc

- people in grocery stores, violations could include leaving their shopping trolley in a spot that obstructs people (maybe a blocking foul?)

- randomly show up at local courts and referee pickup games

I'm sure others will come up with some more

Telling kids on the street corners to pull up their shorts....

Giving unsportsmanlike technicals to people who use the F word...

Conferring with your spouse about whether to call a foul on your grandkids...

Just stay away from Foot Locker or it's 6 bucks an hour.

Minimum wage in Oregon is $8.40/hr. Plus - employers are required to provide each employee with free range granola.

And...you're going to be a perfect gentleman towards the officials so you can set the proper example, right?

Of course. My team will also have 2 second year officials and 1 BV coach on the team.

I never had any real problems ref'n this league. It's an over-40 league and most of the players are former college players. One of the other teams has a BV coach who is also the son of a 37-year HS officiating veteran. A few other players on various teams are parents of HS players whom I've officiated.
