I do the same...

White Fourteen...One (signal 1)...Four (4)...(Push)

"White"

"One-Four"

mechanic only- no verbal- push

"2", but if its really loud, just 2 fingers.

Followed by, on occasion-

"Yes coach, he was shooting" or
"no coach, he didn't travel" or
"Yes coach, we'll call it on your end too- it's only 15 seconds into the game"

I prefer to verbalize what the infraction is, you may use the push legal but the player undercut another player and I will verbalize "White 15, he undercut him."

Agreed. If it's out of the ordinary, I'll let 'em know what it is.

Nope. I see no reason not to stick with the standard book signals and verbal, unless a coach or player asks a question after I've reported.

two handed reporting

The fedand NCAA men limits you to one handed reporting so you need to be clear with what ever method you choose when you say the number,
In NCAAW we get to use two hand which I much prefer to get across 14 or 35 because you can show both digits as you say the number.

As far as the call out - it depends on who you talk to or are assigned or being evaluated by at the time - as to if you say one four or fourteen, the important thing that has been stressed is to speak clearly and slowly to leave no doubt as to what you say.
When you signal the foul use the prescribed signal - it is considered acceptable to describe something if it is odd, that might avert an issue with a coach.
Example.
white team
one - four (signal with one hand one and four or two hands with the one on the right hand the four on the left hand)
give the push signal,
S/he used a swim move to clear the defender

move on.

Describing the call? That's what Jay Bilas does...........IMHO, no need to justify your call, assume it's not going to be questioned.
