Chuck,
What college are they going to and is it public or private? Might make a difference.

The point of my posting was intended to be humorous. I know that I am not the best story teller but just read the post again guys because I think that this thread is getting far of the road I wanted to go down.
Mark, threads on a discussion board are like children going off to college. Once we let go of them and send them into the world, they take on their own lives and we have little control of them. Wish them luck, check in on them once in a while, cry just a little when they descend into vapid discussions of Hitler. And when they come back around to the original topic, welcome them back with a warm post, clean up their old bedroom, buy their groceries till they find a summer job. . .

What were talking about again?

Chuck

The Bosox, and the last time they won a World Series!
I think you got them nailed above--"wish them luck, check in on them once in a while, cry just a little when they descend..."!:D

Once again, I quote the immortal Eric Cartman: JR, "I'm going to kill you over and over again."

By the way, three cheers for Mo Vaughn!!! :p

Chuck - don't ever change! You make me laugh on these posts all the time...btw: how about that Clemens-Mets matchup this weekend??? Turned on the satellite to watch the Rocket get beaned...pretty disappointing. Exactly how does one miss an arse that big anyway???

Do you mean an arse like Clemens or an arse as big as Clemens' arse? :D

BTW, IMHO, if you're going to throw at him once, you've gotta keep throwing at him until you hit him.

Gotta agree with that!! Was it '88 when he deliberately bailed out on the Sox in that ALCS game vs. Oakland? Got down a few runs and wasn't pitching well-so he deliberately got himself tossed instead of hanging tough in there and trying to get out of trouble. He really let the Sox down that day,and I lost all respect for him(don't tell Chuck, but I was pulling for the Sox that year.Never could stand those Oakland teams). He then spent the next four years out-of-shape and on the DL most of the time--and whined when they shipped his fat butt to Toronto.
I was kinda hoping that the Mets woulda plunked him, just to see if he had the cojones to do something about it.

I thought the whole thing stank. All week the media was
banging the drums on this, when Estes threw behind him on
the first pitch I was disgusted. WWF never looked as fixed.
Frankly I would have felt better if Estes would have just
plunked fat old Roger & taken his chances. Obviously
pre-arranged, very sad day.

MLB just wanted to put this whole thing to rest, IMO. Could
have been put to rest 2 yrs ago if Piazza would have done
what he had to do. They sure don't make 'em like Billy
Martin or Bob Gibson anymore.

Anyway, here's what MLB has to say about this mess:

An Interleague weekend of all games in National League parks provided a uniform set of rules. Pitchers across the board had to bat. Many looked bad. A few experienced a Major League thrill by actually getting a hit. And guys like Roger Clemens and Tim Hudson learned there is a thing called accountability.

Accountability? Hardly.

Dan,
As I recall, Piazza did exactly that. He made his parents and fans proud.

Mmmmm, well, turning the other cheek is fine, as is bending
like a young willow to the storm, but somehow I gotta think
if a pitcher throws a broken bat head at you and takes a
few steps in your direction you've got to at least make him
stop and take a few steps backwards. Anyway, I think if
Piazza had played it differently this would have been an
issue for 2, 3 days then gone away. IMO.

Bat head? What bat head? He thought he was throwing the ball -- even Roger said so. :D I have always been a Yankee fan and I always will be, but he should have been tossed from that game -- World Series or not. He should have been tossed.

Back to the subject of coaches being idiots, had a funny thing happen in a 16-18 year old AAU game this past Sunday. Team A lost by about 30 points because they got out-played, out-hustled, and out-shot. Also got out-coached. Team A coach (constantly berated her bench) was upset with the whole deal -- more at her team than us, but at the end she came up to us (3-person)looked at one of my partners and demanded:

Coach: I want your name.
Partner: You can't have it.

Coach: Why not?
Partner: Because my parents gave it to me and you have to get your own name.

She then looks at 2nd partner and asks (rather than demands):

Coach A: Can I ask your name?
Partner: Sure, it is "Richard Cranium".

Coach: Thank you.

She walks a away and it finally dawns on her what he said and she looks back at him and said "That can't be your name". He told her "Tha's what my wife calls me all the time".

She just turned and walked away, but the look on her face was priceless.

dblref - you win this week's "Davism" award. Your "Richard Cranium" name is in the same genre as the guy who used to post on the "other board" - Heywood Jablowme.

Try giving that name to a coach sometime. ;)
