Wow.

The article indicated that some recommendation was expected earlier in the week. No one has posted anything more, yet. We had a lengthy thread on this matter last week.

Where was I? Oh, nevermind.

Thank god there is no protesting in our area!!!!

It's like each conference has it's own protest rules and committees.

But I haven't heard anything yet. I looked in todays paper and nada.

I didn't get in on this week, but maybe instead of worrying about the protest, wins and loses, the coaches should be worried about the sportsmanship of their players?

NFHS 5-4-2: The NFHS Rules Committee does not recognize protests.;)

Some states do, however (Missouri even allows in-game protests that could take 10 minutes.)

Thats interesting - How many other states allow protests of some kind?

What really shocked me was that the coach actually knew the rule on how many free throws should have been awarded. The odds of that happening makes me think the whole story was made up. Of course, it could be because this has happened many times before to his team and the penalty is just ingrained in him.

The coach didn't know the rule at the time. He had some help and learned later that the administration was incorrect. It's possible that the posts on this forum were a large source of his information.

Think about this case. A team is ahead by 5 points with 12.3 seconds left. One of their players gets fouled intentionally. In addition, the opponent holds on to the player long enough to get charged with a technical foul. The opponent continues to pull and twists the player to the ground resulting in a second technical.

Due to the melee that follows THIS SPORTSMANSHIP (by the way, if you watch the whole tape, you will see the kids from both teams conducting themselves just fine), the team goes from being ahead by what should have been 10 points (the players made 5 of the first 6 FTs resulting from the intentional and two Technical fouls) 61-51 to LOSING 68 - 62 because of a GROSS misapplication of rules by the the official.

If such a case would happen in our State -- which also follows the NF rules on protests -- I would hope the OHSAA would step in without a protest being required to right this gross mistake.

How does that work? Is there an evaluator or something at every game? Do they have TV monitors?

I'm not there, so I don't know the details. My understanding, however, is that they must be rules based protests. IOW, not judgment calls but the coach has to protest what he considers a misapplication of the rule. He must provide the book, IMS.
