10-5-4 . . . The head coach shall not permit a team member to participate while
wearing an illegal uniform (see 3-4).
PENALTY: (Section 5) Two free throws plus ball for division-line throw-in. The
foul is charged directly to the head coach.
(Art. 3) Penalized if discovered
while being violated. (Art. 4) Penalized when discovered. Only one technical
foul is charged regardless of the number of offenders.

PENALTY FOR ILLEGAL UNIFORMS CHANGED (10-5-4 New): A maximum of
one technical foul shall be charged directly to the head coach when a participant
wears an illegal jersey, illegal pants/skirt or an illegal number.
This rules change
reduces the penalty from one technical foul assessed to each starter and each
substitute to a maximum of one technical foul assessed directly to the head
coach. There has been a proliferation of illegal uniforms worn by teams within the
past several years. This change reduces the penalty, but puts the responsibility
for illegal uniforms where it ultimately belongs – with the head coach, not the
participant.

IOW, I wouldn't have a T at the beginning of the game or when the player entered.
Yup, I would've done the same thing.

Why such a rush to report the T-O? You should have noticed the players sitting down. Part of dead ball officiating is observing the players as they clear the floor. Doing this you would have noticed that the players were taking seats and the coaches were setting up for a full T-O.

Nor would I.

Also, I couldn't care less whether players stand or sit for a 30 second timeout. As long as they are ready for play when the second horn sounds, what does it matter. Finally, if they do sit down, there's no penalty defined in the rule book. Why be a plumber?
