Real answer: there are SIXTY occurances where three states' borders meet. This includes the Four Corners case counting as four occurances - one for each combination where each of the four states is not included.

Nice piece of trivia. But hold on. Sometimes the borders don't have to meet. Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey, are often referred to as a tri-state area, especially if you live in New York City. The Connecticut border never touches the New Jersey border. I wonder if there are any more instances of this?

There are some, but who gets to decide what distance delimits two cases?

And Maine is the only state in the lower 48 to only border one other state. Though up by Fort Kent, New Brunswick & Quebec border Maine. Kind of a feeble stretch, though.
