Shot Clock Faliure

Hey everybody,
I have a interesting question!

In California we are required to use a shot clock. We were the visiting team and the host school's shot clock failed so they ended up using a shot clock that was visible only to the table. They would count down at 15,10,5 and then down.

My questions are as follows:
Pt.1-In a situation where the shot clock fails and an emergency device is used does said device have to be visible for the officials to assure that it is being operated properly (I.E.-Resets,Stops,Starts)?

Pt.2-While using the emergency device what is the proper procedure for handling said countdown if any exists? Did the officials handle this situation correctly?

Thank You for your help,
SCalscorekeeper
