foul then horn then release

Late in the quarter, A1 is in the act of shooting a two-point shot, gets fouled, then the horn sounds, then the ball is released. The ball goes through the hoop. I'm 99% sure that the ruling is no basket and two free throws. I thought there was a casebook play but I can't find it. Anyone?

You're correct: no basket; give him 2 shots, lane cleared.

Okay good. Case book play? All I have now are a couple rule book things strung together (4-41-3, 10-11 penalty 5) and I think there is something specific somewhere.

Sorry - I don't have a case book in electronic format, nor with me.

I have one with me. Any idea where I can look because I'm striking out.

Look in the rule book under the definitions of live and dead ball. It falls under the exception for a ball remaining live after a foul if the attempt has begun.

That said, if one of you sees the clock with time on it after the whistle, you can (and should) put the time back on, count the basket, and grant one free throw.

6-5-7 article 7 exception C is the ruling I found. This is what Snaq's referenced.

That said, it must be a definite amount of time, which considering the circumstances, is likely to be 00:00.X. Suffice to say this is not something that will happen often.
