This gets a "wow!"

From D3hoops.com:

Quote:

Justin Short led three Randolph-Macon players in double figures as he led the Yellow Jackets to a 73-72 exhibition win over Division I and defending CAA champion George Mason.

That doesn't happen very often...we have D-1 teams out here who schedule D-3 and even NAIA teams early on, but I can't remember any of the D-1 teams losing to the lower level teams. We had a perennial powerhouse D-2 Women's team beat a West Coast Conference team a few years back...does that count?

GVSU Beats MSU

DII Grand Valley beats MSU Spartans in 2 OT exhibition game.
MSU was preseason ranked #8 and ended up in the sweet 16.

well, when he signed on, he was going to use "Jurassic Referee" instead of "Back in the Saddle," but it was taken.

I'll show you my birth certificate if you like. It's in old English. Which wasn't old when it was written. ;)

Funny How It Only Seems Like A Few Years Ago To Me Too ...

The Chaminade upset of Ralph Sampson's Virginia team occurred in 1982. That was 26 years ago. That only seem like a few years ago to Back In The Saddle because for twenty, of those twenty-six years, he was in a coma, caused by a too many adult beverages, after too many games, with too many coaches, yelling too many unsporting comments to him.

Seems like a game management problem to me. Maybe he was suffering from Gamus Interruptus.

I remember when South Boston YMCA upset Springfield YMCA 4-2 in a real high scoring game. In fact, there were so many points, Dr. Naismith had to replace the peach baskets because they took such a beating that night. I told him he might consider switching to something else, like nets, but he said that the peach baskets were usually just fine for up to one or two shots per team per game and he didn't anticipate teams ever shooting more than that.

I think he had stock in the peach basket company. He was such a young whippersnapper in those days. :)

I Would Have Whacked Him For The Reprobate Insult ...

Was Mark T. DeNucci, Sr. your partner in that game? I heard that Mark T. DeNucci, Sr. was the first official to eject Dr. Naismith from a game. From what I hear, Dr. Naismith disagreed with a shouldering foul call, and called Mark T. DeNucci, Sr. a, "Mountebank, scallywag, reprobate, charlatan, hooligan, and a miscreant". Back then, "Mountebank", earned the coach an automatic technical foul, and ejection.
