Last game for a month

Today was the last game of the year for our public MS season. This means I get a whole month off before CYO ball.

New rules (under NFHS) I learned today:

* If the clock is stopped due to a mechanical error at the table, subs are not allowed to enter the game.

* We are just like NCAA and only allow 3 defensive players lined up at the lane during free throws.

And to top it off, the partner of this official called an "over the back foul."

Chances are pretty good, I'll see the official who taught me those two tidbits again. That should be entertaining.

I think he was being sarcastic. Maybe we should introduce the blue font rule.

I guess I need (sarcasm) (/sarcasm) tags from now on But yes, I was being sarcastic.

I'm not 100% sure about the first situation, but I believe in NCAA you can't sub on an indavertant whistle or abnormal stoppage in play. (Of course, it has been 3 seasons since I've done stats on a long term basis on the NCAA level, so I'm a bit rusty on recent rule changes there).

The official said we could only sub during dead balls... Although I got him to concede the ball was dead while the home team fixed the scoreboard controller, he wasn't going to let our sub in at all.

I do think 5 in the lane is an NCAA rule as well... definitely an NBA rule.

Sarcastically Confused ...

If you bet that I was confused, then you won the bet.

I'm still looking for my keys.

Also, I didn't realize that this thread was posted on a day that ended in a "Y" (Thursday).

In the last minute of play. And, the rule is slightly different between NCAAM and NCAAW

NCAA and FED, 6 players are allowed along FT lane. Correct about NBA.

I hate long stretches like that. Once the season starts, I don't want a long break. Right now, my college schedule is completely empty from 12/15 to 1/13, almost a whole month. I'll get some high school games in there, but I'll still probably only fill it halfway or so.

I took last season off, including pre-season, post-season, and camp season. Furthermore, I sort of quit the board. I spent most of my time trying to remember why I was even alive, and whether or not I could get up and get dressed. So my rules memory is rusty, and I haven't started reviewing for this season, which I hope will be slim, but successful. But don't we always have 6 people on the lane? I thought that was how we were supposed to do it? I'm feeling very confused.

On free throws, there is a maximum of two offensive players and four defensive players in the six marked lane spaces. The defense must be in the first marked lane spaces, above the neutral zone marks, on all free throws. The offense must not occupy the first marked lane spaces, above the neutral zone marks. The shooter and all the players in the designated lane spaces must wait until the ball hits rim or backboard before entering the lane. During a free throw, no opponent, including bench personnel, may disconcert the free thrower.

Yes, that's the way it is now. But, there was a time when it was 6 on the lane in HS and 5 in NCAAW.
